Trader Joe's Grocery List

Trader Joe’s 101

Trader Joe’s is one of my FAVORITE health food stores! They have so many unique options at an affordable price. Whether you’re on a budget, a college student, or just looking for a health food store to shop at, TJ’s is the spot! I know the grocery stores can be overwhelming with all of the choices available. I’ve created this list for you to be able to stick to a plan when you’re navigating the store.

One of the first things I do before going grocery shopping is make a list. It’s a dangerous game going into the store without one. I can’t even count how many times I’ve gone into the store without a list and walked out with a bunch of stuff I didn’t intend on getting and that’s not a fun lesson to learn when you’re on a budget. I’m old school when it comes to grocery lists, I love writing them down with some pen and paper, which is why i’ve created these templates for you to print out. But, they can also be saved to your phone so you have access to them digitally as well.

I could spend hours in the grocery store gawking at all the things and sifting through food to find the best option, but I know not everyone is as interested in food as much as I am or has that much time! This list can be helpful to organize your week as well.

A few important things to look out for:

  • TJ’s does offers a lot of dips, cheeses, crackers, pre-made meals, breads, and a handful of other snacks - but you won’t find those things listed here. This is more of a health conscious grocery list that includes a lot of staple items. Of course it’s okay to indulge in those things here and there, but not on a regular basis.

  • Be sure to check your labels. Just because TJ’s is labeled a health food store doesn’t mean everything inside is necessarily healthy. Unfortunately a lot of their processed food items still use inflammatory oils and many other unhealthy ingredients.

  • I always suggest purchasing organic food when available - including your protein sources. Check EWG dirty dozen + clean fifteen list (here) when produce shopping.

Noted on the grocery list, I share my top 10 favorite items that I ALWAYS stock up on when I go to Trader Joe’s - they are my must haves!

*BONUS*

5 tips to help you plan out your meals for the week:

  1. Pick 4-5 protein options to help you get through the bulk of the week.

  2. Pick a vegetable or two for each protein.

  3. Pick a complex carbohydrate to go along with the protein + veggie. You can also nix the carb choice if you’re looking for a lower carb meal or substitute it with a fruit!

  4. Narrow down your breakfast options and ensure you write down everything you need here as well.

  5. Check your staple items to see what needs re-stocked. Also, keep in mind any miscellaneous items you’d need throughout the week - such as nuts for a snack, or post workout fuel, protein powders, collagen, etc.

Happy shopping!

xx Brit
