We all know conditioning, more popularly known as ‘cardio’, is the key to building endurance. However, their is a lot more to it than simply pushing yourself to get your heart rate up and breath harder.

To optimize your conditioning, there needs to be a level of strategy in place to allow you to match the type of conditioning needed to get your body to respond the way you want. We won’t dive into the many differnt types of cardio you can do, but we will give you a good place to start!

Here are two different ways to measure the kind of effort you are putting into your cardio workouts.⁣ ⁣ If you have a heart rate monitor and zones, great! Keep using and refining them. BUT, most people don’t have or use a heart monitor. ⁣ ⁣

Paying attention to your breathing can be just as effective when aiming to get the most out of your workouts!⁣ ⁣

At lower intensity efforts, you should be breathing in and out of your nose. As you work harder, those nasal breaths should get more powerful.⁣ ⁣

Once you struggle to breath in and out of your nose, start breathing in your nose and out of your mouth. It is a smooth transition to full on mouth breathing, which will be necessary for high intensity efforts.⁣ ⁣

The 🔑 is to simply pay attention to how hard your working and use your breath or heart rate to manage what intensity you’re aiming to work for. Not every workout should be a killer, but we also shouldn’t train only at a low cruise either. All about finding balance and doing what is best for your goals!⁣

Let us know below how you manage your cardio intensity!
