You can learn to enjoy healthy foods too!

Some of the most nutrient dense foods can often be the toughest to acquire taste for. But that doesn’t mean you can’t learn to enjoy them on a regular basis! Try this 10-Day challenge to spark your taste buds’ interest in nutrient dense whole foods that can change your life. The point of this challenge is help you learn how to train your body how to crave the foods that fuel it best!

Having the ability to recognize and take control of what foods you put in your body, and when, is a major game changer. When you start to trade poor habits and learn to expand your pallet, you’ll be amazed at what benefits come with the new tastes. Not only are you improving your health, but your mood and energy levels will change dramatically as well.

here’s how it works

Pick a couple of healthy foods that you don’t currently have in your normal routine and have at least five bites or sips of one of these foods/ingredients daily, for 10 days straight.

  • Examples: tomatoes, mushrooms, dark leafy greens (such as spinach, arugula, chard, kale, broccolie, gollard greens, etc.), celery, avocado, seaweed/sea vegetables, natural lean pork, chicken, beef, turkey, bison, wild game, eggs, wild-caught fish, shrimp, mackerel, tuna, anchovies, sardines, quinoa, pickeled foods, tempeh, edamame, or miso

Whether you eat these foods raw, sneak them in as an ingredient in one of your favorite recipes, or even build a whole meal from nutrient dense whole foods - the point is to simply try them on multiple occasions in a short time frame.

During those 10 days, do your best to limit added sugar, processed foods, and alcohol. Ideally this is something you work towards limiting long term, but especially while you’re trying to develop a taste for nutrient dense whole foods.

The goal is to challenge yourself to try something several times vs. trying it once and shunning it for life if you didn’t like it at first. It takes time to you allow your body to actually feel the benefits and acquire a desire to keep those foods in your routine. It’s commonly said that some foods need to be tried 10 times before we learn to like them. Not to mention, there are lots of ways to cook and prepare different foods, so maybe you think you don’t like it but it was simply not prepared in a way that allows you to enjoy the taste as much as the benefit.

Most importantly, find the best ways for you to enjoy eating what is best for you body. Once you’ve done this successfully once, challenge yourself again and keep refining. Soon enough, you’ll be loving the taste and benefits of getting out of your normal eating routine!
